We posted, in the photo gallery, a dozen swedges. We only refer to one as a swage. That tool was made in England. We have never heard anyone from England pronounce the word but textbooks from England spell it S W A G E and we have even seen it even spelled SUAGE. So, if the British are going to call it a swage, then we will too. But in America today swage can be, among other things, a fastener on cable or rope. Swedge is how it is spelled in 19th century catalogs such as Dover Stamping Catalog. Merriam Webster says swedge is a variation spelling of swage. Even as I type this blog post spellcheck says swedge is incorrect. The word may be pronounced the same, but we will continue to spell it S W E D G E.
